Fruit of the Spirit – Faithfulness

Fruit of the Spirit – Faithfulness

God stands out as an incredible witness when it comes to faithfulness; He always keeps His promises.

It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
– Lamentations 3:22-23

God desires for each of His children to develop admirable characteristics when we submit ourselves to His Holy Spirit’s work in our lives. Bearing these noble traits is important and with His help, it can become a reality in our lives.

Psalm 100:5 says it best: when we exhibit faithfulness we mirror God’s character. God always keeps His promises, so when we act faithfully it helps reflect His character.

For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.
– Psalm 100:5

Let us examine Job as an excellent example of faithfulness. He endured immense trials and tribulations, such as losing his family, possessions, and health – yet through it all, Job remained true to God, even proclaiming in Job 1:21 that

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised.

Job’s story reminds us that faithfulness doesn’t only involve being loyal during times of ease and prosperity; instead, it means remaining committed to God even during difficult circumstances and trials. Faithfulness may not always be easy, but we make the choice every day to remain committed and loyal even during tough times.

Are you being true to those around you?

As Christians, we are called to be loyal both to God and one another. Hebrews 10:23 reads,

Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep His promise

God is always faithful, and when we show that same faithfulness toward Him, it shows that we trust His plan for our lives and are committed to following His path.

However, how can we foster faithfulness in our lives? Firstly, it’s essential that we form a relationship with God through Jesus Christ – only then can the Holy Spirit help produce faithfulness within us. Additionally, reading and studying the Bible as it provides guidance for living an honest life while honoring Him while honoring others is also key in cultivating faithfulness in ourselves and others.

Faithfulness can also be developed through our commitments. We should aim to keep our promises and fulfill them even when difficult or inconvenient; be faithful and supportive in times of need for friends and family; be reliable so others can rely on us to keep our word; be trustworthy so others trust that their word will be kept.

Let us endeavor to develop this essential quality of God.

Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
– Proverb 3:3-4
