“for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again,
but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.”
New Living Translation (NLT)
“The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again.
But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked.”
New King James Version (NKJV)
“For a righteous man may fall seven times
And rise again,
But the wicked shall fall by calamity.”
World English Bible (WEB)
“for a righteous man falls seven times and rises up again;
but the wicked are overthrown by calamity.”
What is the meaning of Proverbs 24:16?
This verse means that even a righteous person (someone who is morally upright and follows God’s laws) may experience setbacks or failures in life. However, they will always get back up and try again. In contrast, the wicked (those who do evil and do not follow God’s laws) will stumble and fall when faced with difficult situations or problems. They will not have the strength or character to overcome these challenges.
