Bible Verses About Protection

Introduction

In this blog post, we will look at various Bible verses which highlight protection. Protection is an overarching theme throughout the Scriptures as God promises to protect his people from dangers and enemies; spiritual protection also refers to how God provides security and peace for those who trust in him. We will examine some verses which show His protection in different situations or settings that can encourage us to trust His care more completely in everyday living.

How to Seek God’s Protection

Life can be full of obstacles and perils. At times we may feel powerless to solve our own problems and may feel vulnerable and scared. At such moments it’s important to remember that God is our strength, ever-present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

He can protect us from all harm, while simultaneously shielding us from evil forces. Here are some strategies for praying to God for protection:

  • When confronted by an overwhelming situation or problem that seems insurmountable, prayer is the solution. Simply say to God “Thank You Lord; Nothing is too hard for You; Your wonders know no bounds; Make a way where there seems no way. Please protect me from this situation according to Your will and provide a solution that fits into Your plan – Grant wisdom courage and peace as I trust in Your will, all this I ask in Jesus’ name. Amen”.
  • When in danger or facing threats from others or something external, prayer can help. Say: “Dear Lord of Hosts, may your mighty warrior fight on my behalf and protect me from this danger and enemy. Please surround me with angels of protection as your blood covers me – in Jesus’ name I ask it!”
  • When feeling anxious or scared about something, pray like this: “God, I thank You that You are my refuge and my fortress; You are the source of all comfort and peace, so please protect me from this fear and anxiety; fill my heart and mind with Your Holy Spirit’s love; cast out any fears from my mind in Jesus’ name. Amen”

There are many examples in Scripture of how God protected His people in times of difficulty or danger, or fear. Below are just a few:

  • God protected Noah and his family from the flood by instructing him to build an ark (Genesis 6).
  • God protected Abraham and Sarah from Pharaoh and Abimelech by sending plagues and warnings (Genesis 12).
  • God protected Isaac and Rebekah from Abimelech by revealing his intention to harm them (Genesis 26).
  • God protected Jacob from Esau by changing his brother’s heart (Genesis 33).
  • God protected Joseph from his brothers, Potiphar’s wife, and prison by giving him favor and dreams (Genesis 37-50).
  • God protected Moses and the Israelites from Pharaoh and his army by parting the Red Sea (Exodus 14).
  • God protected Joshua and the Israelites from Jericho by collapsing its walls (Joshua 6).
  • God protected Gideon and his army from the Midianites by reducing their number and confusing their enemies (Judges 7).
  • God protected Samson from the Philistines by restoring his strength (Judges 16).
  • God protected David from Saul by hiding him in caves and sending him friends (1 Samuel 18-31).
  • God protected Daniel from the lions by shutting their mouths (Daniel 6).
  • God protected Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the fiery furnace by sending an angel (Daniel 3).
  • God protected Esther and the Jews from Haman by exposing his plot (Esther 4-9).
  • God protected Nehemiah and the builders from Sanballat and Tobiah by giving them success (Nehemiah 4-6).
  • God protected Jonah from the storm and the fish by saving him (Jonah 1-2).
  • God protected Jesus from Herod by warning his parents (Matthew 2).
  • God protected Peter from prison by sending an angel (Acts 12).
  • God protected Paul from a shipwreck by giving him a vision (Acts 27).

These examples demonstrate how God guards his people throughout Scripture. These passages demonstrate His willingness and ability to shield us from any harm or evil that might threaten our safety; He is faithful and trustworthy – our protector and deliverer!

If you want to seek God’s protection, prayer may be the solution. Additionally, reading and reflecting upon His promises and deeds found within Scripture may also provide the comforting reassurance of who He is and what He has done for us all. You can worship and thank Him for who He is as well as what He has provided – perhaps sharing your testimony of Him helping other individuals seek Him as well.

God cares deeply about you and wants to protect you. He can be found as your refuge and source of strength during times of hardship; seek Him and trust in Him and He will shield you.

How to Trust God’s Protection

One of the greatest challenges of Christian living is trusting in God’s protection in every situation. Living in an unpredictable and dangerous world can be trying, with situations often seeming hopeless or impossible; doubts, fears, and anxieties paralyzing or tempting us to give up altogether. So how can we put our trust in him when we feel helpless or hopeless?

Faith and confidence in God is the answer to suffering. Faith is “assurance of things hoped for, conviction of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1).

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Confidence refers to being certain about something’s truth (Merriam-Webster). When we put our trust and confidence in His protection, rather than depending on our feelings, circumstances, or understanding; instead we lean on His word, power, and love alone.

God’s word reminds us that he is faithful and sovereign. Being faithful means keeping his promises, and always doing what he says he will do while being sovereign means having complete authority over all that happens in this universe. Nothing happens without his permission or outside his plan – He works all things together for our good who love Him (Romans 8:28).

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

God is powerful enough to do anything He pleases; after all, He created all things and sustains them with his Word (Hebrews 1:1-3).

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,  Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;  Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:

Furthermore, according to Ephesians 3:20, we know his power works within us to accomplish much more than we ask or think possible – nothing is beyond His reach or beyond his abilities!

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

God’s love reassures us of his care for us and seeks the best outcomes for us. He is our loving heavenly Father, showing his affection by sending Jesus Christ to die for our sins and rise again so as to provide eternal life (John 3:16).

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Additionally, his Holy Spirit comforts, guides, and empowers us (John 14:16-17).

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

God knows exactly what we need before asking and provides from his glorious resources (Matthew 6:8).

Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

And the same promise is found in (Philippians 4:19).

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

These are just some of the reasons we should trust God’s protection in every situation, but how can we apply this trust in daily life? Below are a few practical steps we can take when we’re experiencing uncertainty, doubt, or anxiety:

  • Pray. Prayer is the way we communicate with God and express our trust in him. We can pray anytime, anywhere, and about anything. We can pray with praise, thanksgiving, confession, petition, intercession, or lament. We can pray according to God’s will and in Jesus’ name. We can pray with faith and confidence that God hears us and answers us according to his wisdom and timing (1 John 5:14-15).
  • Read. Reading God’s word is the way we hear from God and learn his truth. We can read the Bible daily, systematically, and meditatively. We can read with an open mind, a humble heart, and a willing spirit. We can read with the help of the Holy Spirit who illuminates our understanding and applies God’s word to our lives (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Psalm 119:105).
  • Remember. Remembering God’s deeds is the way we recall his faithfulness and sovereignty in the past. We can remember how he saved us from our sins and gave us new life in Christ. We can remember how he delivered us from troubles and difficulties in the past. We can remember how he answered our prayers and fulfilled his promises. We can remember how he showed us his grace and mercy in various ways (Psalm 103:1-5; Lamentations 3:21-23).
  • Rejoice. Rejoicing in God’s presence is the way we experience his joy and peace in the present. We can rejoice in God always, regardless of our circumstances or feelings. We can rejoice in who he is, what he has done, what he is doing, and what he will do. We can rejoice in his love, grace, mercy, power, wisdom, holiness, justice, goodness, faithfulness, and sovereignty (Philippians 4:4; Psalm 16:11).
  • Rely. Relying on God’s promises is the way we anticipate his protection and provision in the future. We can rely on his promises that he will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). We can rely on his promises that he will supply all our needs (Philippians 4:19). We can rely on his promises that he will work all things together for our good (Romans 8:28). We can rely on his promises that he will give us the strength, wisdom, and courage we need to face any challenge or opportunity (Isaiah 41:10; James 1:5; Joshua 1:9).

These are some of the ways we can trust God’s protection in every situation. Trusting God’s protection is not a one-time event, but a lifelong journey. It is not a passive attitude, but an active response. It is not a blind leap, but a rational choice. It is not a natural instinct, but a supernatural gift. It is not a burden, but a blessing. It is not a duty, but a delight.

May we trust God’s protection today and every day and experience his peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

How to Share God’s Protection

God is an everlasting source of protection, promising us shelter and strength from harm, danger, and trouble. His watchful care cannot be broken! Nothing can ever separate us from His love!

God is our shield and protector; His protection should not only be for ourselves. As followers of Christ, we have opportunities and responsibilities to extend God’s protection to others in need through various channels such as:

  • Praying for Others. One of the easiest and most powerful ways we can show others God’s protection is through prayer. By praying for others we can bring about physical, emotional, spiritual, and relational well-being for ourselves and for them; pray that He protects them from evil such as temptation, sickness, accidents, violence oppression persecution as well as bless them with peace joy hope love – so He may guide, provide, and fulfill His purposes through us!
  • Encourage Others. One way we can share God’s protection with others is through encouraging words of faith, hope, and love. We can remind them of His promises, presence, and power, affirming their identities and potentials within Christ and bringing life, grace, and truth into their situations – comforting their sorrows while celebrating in joys together with them or supporting their challenges with support.
  • Serving Others. One way we can share God’s protection with others is through acts of kindness, generosity, and justice. We can assist them with practical needs such as food, clothing, shelter, health care, education, or employment as well as giving of our time, talents resources, or gifts; advocating when they’re oppressed marginalized, or discriminated against as well as seeking their welfare and fostering their dignity.

The Bible encourages and commands us to share God’s protection with those around us, providing guidance in verses like these:

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up”
(1 Thessalonians 5:11)

“Carry each other’s burdens”
(Galatians 6:2)

“Love your neighbor as yourself”
(Mark 12:31)

“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due”
(Proverbs 3:27)

“Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed”
(Psalm 82:3)

“As we have opportunity, let us do good to all people”
(Galatians 6:10)

Sharing God’s blessing and protection with others is both an honor and joy while fulfilling His will. When we share His protection with others, we also experience it ourselves – becoming channels for His blessing and instruments of His glory!
